Student passport and document checklist

Set the deadlines before classes, housing, and flights fill your calendar. Tick each item as you confirm it with your school or consulate.

Start with the six-month mark

Passport renewal can take longer during busy travel periods. Put the expiry date beside your semester dates, then ask your study-abroad office about visa lead times.

Small detail. Big relief.

02 / Travel budget

Build your semester budget

Use a rough monthly picture before you commit to weekend plans. Adjust the ranges to reflect your host city and course schedule.

03 / Banking abroad

ATMs and fees: a student's guide

Your student account needs a plan for cash. Learn which charges come from your bank, which come from the ATM owner, and where a card network may add another conversion cost.

Ask before you travel.
01

Check the account terms

Ask your bank about foreign transaction fees, international ATM charges, daily limits, and card replacement abroad. Student accounts from providers such as Chime or Revolut can have different rules.

02

Use partner ATMs

Find your bank's partner network before departure. A familiar logo does not guarantee a low-cost withdrawal, so read the on-screen fee notice before accepting.

03

In many European cities, independent machines such as Euronet may show higher fees or unfavourable conversion choices. A bank-operated ATM is usually the better first option.

04

Turn on bank alerts

Set purchase and withdrawal notifications before your flight. Keep a second payment method separate from your wallet and record your bank's international support number.

04 / Ready for departure

Don't leave your finances to chance

Bring your programme dates, destination, current bank details, and questions to a student prep call with Thompson Voyage. We'll help you turn loose notes into a semester-ready plan.
